Job description

Were looking for an experienced and highly skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our dedicated team at the Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre. This role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality elective orthopaedic care in a modern, purpose-built hospital rated Good by the CQC and known for outstanding patient outcomes.

Youll play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering specialist care, with a particular focus on joint replacements (hip and knee), arthroscopic knee surgery, and a variety of minor orthopaedic procedures. With first-line cover provided by RMOs, the on-call responsibility is minimal and shared on a rota with orthopaedic colleagues.

Main duties of the job

As our Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, you will be:

  • Perform a wide range of elective orthopaedic procedures, including:
  • Primary hip and knee replacements
  • Knee arthroscopy and carpal tunnel release
  • Joint injections and aspirations
  • Additional minor procedures based on your expertise
  • Deliver exceptional care across the patient pathway preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care
  • Support and supervise junior clinical staff
  • Participate in audit, clinical governance, service improvement, and teaching
  • Engage in continuing professional development and actively contribute to departmental meetings and strategic planning
