Job summary

Optegra Eye Health Care is seeking experienced Consultant Ophthalmologists to join our NHS insourcing service at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. Flexible weekend sessions are available, with self-employed, sessional opportunities and competitive day rates.

The role involves comprehensive cataract assessments and high-volume cataract surgery to support NHS capacity and reduce patient waiting times, working alongside ophthalmic nursing and theatre teams in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with current licence to practise.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Ophthalmology.
• Relevant experience in cataract assessment and/or cataract surgery.

Responsibilities

• Undertake comprehensive cataract assessments, including assessment of surgical suitability and patient selection.
• Deliver safe and effective cataract surgery within planned operating lists where engaged for surgical duties.
• Review investigations, biometry and intraocular lens selection.
• Ensure appropriate patient consent, clinical decision-making and surgical planning.
• Adhere to surgical safety procedures including the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and ophthalmic safety protocols.
• Recognise, manage and escalate intraoperative or post-operative complications as needed.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation including outcomes and operation notes.
• Provide post-operative instructions, follow-up arrangements and referrals as required.
• Collaborate with nursing, theatre and NHS Tayside teams to maintain safe patient pathways.
• Comply with NHS Tayside governance, incident reporting and professional standards.

Optegra Eye Health Care is seeking experienced Consultant Ophthalmologists to join our NHS insourcing service at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

We are looking for consultants with expertise in cataract assessment and high-volume cataract surgery to support the delivery of additional NHS capacity and help reduce patient waiting times.

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including clinic outcomes and operation notes.

• Work collaboratively with nursing, theatre and NHS Tayside teams to maintain safe and efficient patient pathways.
• Comply with NHS Tayside clinical governance, incident reporting and professional standards.

Essential Requirements

• Full GMC registration with a current licence to practise.
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Ophthalmology.
• Relevant experience in cataract assessment and/or cataract surgery.
• Demonstrable surgical competence and outcomes for consultants undertaking surgical lists.
• Ability to practise independently within an NHS clinical setting.
• Strong communication, clinical governance and patient safety standards.
• Completion of all required compliance, credentialling and onboarding checks.

Previous experience delivering high-volume cataract surgery or NHS insourcing services would be advantageous.
