The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a permanent Consultant Ophthalmologist with a sub-specialist interest in Oculoplastic. The role will be primarily based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury, with responsibilities across both hospital sites. Contribution to an out-of-hours on-call rota is a core component of this role.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) provides acute hospital services for approximately half a million people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales.
The catchment area extends from the Cambrian Mountains in the west to Newport and the Black Country in the east, including towns such as Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, Newport, Telford, Wellington, Newtown, and Welshpool. Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury, which are 20 minutes apart. Both hospitals offer a wide range of acute services including emergency, outpatient, diagnostics, inpatient care, and critical care.
A formal job plan will be agreed upon within three months of starting, in consultation with the Clinical Director and colleagues, and will be reviewed annually. The full-time role is based on a 10 PA working week, covering clinical work, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities. The plan will detail commitments and objectives aligned with service improvements and strategic priorities. For full-time, the weekly allocation is approximately:
Adjustments to PAs may occur based on service demands or further planning exercises. Candidates unable to work full-time will be considered, with job content modifications discussed on an individual basis.
