The post will be based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea, where the successful applicants will join a team supporting glaucoma specialists as part of the South West Wales Regional Glaucoma Service. Consultants share duties across Swansea Bay and Hywel Dda University Health Boards. The successful applicant will join a team of 16 Consultants responsible for Ophthalmology services, participating in the 1 in 16 on-call rota at Singleton Hospital, with cover as needed. In exceptional circumstances, duties may also be undertaken at other locations within the Health Board, with travel expenses reimbursed.
The Surgical Specialties Directorate serves Neath Port Talbot Hospital, Morriston, and Singleton Hospitals, providing regional services across South and West Wales.
You will provide clinical services, including prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness. Working with colleagues and the multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for patient well-being, delegation, and staff training. You will also ensure the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of services in line with the Health Board’s policies and plans. You are encouraged to suggest improvements and report safety concerns.
You must adhere to GMC good medical practice principles and participate in risk management, clinical governance, and healthcare activities within the department, Surgical Division, and the Health Board.
