Job description

It is essential that the post-holder should hold the FRCS (UK) or an equivalent qualification and be on the GMC specialist register or will obtain a relevant CCT/CESR(CP) within 6 months of interview.

The successful applicant will be part of a team expanding to 4 Breast surgeons in delivering high quality service in symptomatic and screening Breast disease to the catchment area. This vacancy arises as part of an expansion of breast cancer and reconstructive surgery and creates an opportunity to enhance and develop our services for the community.

The post will suit a candidate who has recently gained their CCT in Breast surgery (and who is on the specialist register).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The agreed job plan comprises a total of 10 programmed activities (PAs) per week. This consists of 8.5 direct clinical care PAs and 1.5 supporting professional activity PAs. The job plan is subject to annual review with the Clinical Director.

The working day in theatre runs from 08.45 -1.00pm and 1.45pm-6.00pm, with a 30-minute break between the morning and afternoon session for all day lists.

The detailed job plan will be subject to agreement between Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust and the appointee. The initial job plan of the post holder is shown below but may be subject to change.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
  • Full GMC Registration with License to Practice (or eligibility to obtain)
  • FRCS or equivalent
  • CCT in General Surgery and on GMC’s Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of the interview or have confirmed eligibility for Specialist Registration within 6 months
TEACHING / AUDIT / QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
  • Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates, junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Relevant research articles in peer-reviewed journals
  • Completed “Train the Trainers” course of equivalent
CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
  • Training and experience in Breast Surgery including Oncoplastic Surgery
  • Experience in Cancer Management
  • Oncoplastic Fellowship
  • Research undertaken in relevant field
PERSONAL QUALITIES
  • Evidence of working effectively in a Multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm, and approachability
  • Commitment to continuing professional development and clinical governance
