Job description

Consultant - Older Peoples Psychiatry (CMHT)

Applications are invited for a Consultant specialising in Older Peoples Psychiatry to join a Trust based in a beautiful seaside town in southern England.

The Trust's aim is to support older people to live safely at home and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions. The successful candidate will see patients in various settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and most often in their own homes.

You will also see people under 65 with organic brain disease, supported by a multidisciplinary clinical team.

The successful applicant must have the following professional registrations:

  • Section 12
  • Approved Clinician
  • Responsible Clinician status

The hospital is located in a scenic area with sandy beaches, countryside, excellent transport links, and vibrant towns.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Full GMC registration
  • Possession or within 6 months of obtaining a CCT in Psychiatry or on the Specialist Register in Psychiatry
  • At least two years of experience in Old Age Psychiatry at senior/specialist registrar level, plus one year of psychiatric experience at this level (Old Age or other experience)
  • Three years of core training in Psychiatry
  • Minimum two years of NHS work experience
  • Section 12 approval or the ability to obtain it before starting

The Liaison Psychiatry Service works closely with other mental health staff within acute hospitals, including specialist alcohol nurses, dementia nurses, and psychological therapists working with long-term patients or frequent attenders.
