North London NHS Foundation Trust seeks to appoint an enthusiastic full-time consultant psychiatrist to our Barnet East Older Peoples Community Mental Health Team. This is an established post, which has become available due to previous post-holder taking retirement.

This post offers 10 Programmed Activities per week 7.5 PAs for direct clinical care and up to 2.5 PAs for supporting professional activity.

The post holder will be required to provide clinical and professional leadership and to take part in related management activities. As a senior clinician, the post holder will have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of clinical pathways and priorities.

The post holder will be working in the Barnet East, Finchley sector of the Older Peoples Community Mental Health Team (8PAs). In addition, the post holder provides support to Barnet Memory Service (2PAs) offering support to the memory service doctors in relation to patients from Barnet East allocated patch. The post is subject to the annual job planning process agreed under the New Consultant Contract.

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership and RC responsibility within Barnet Older Peoples CMHT Finchley sector.

To provide senior medical input to the multi-disciplinary team, take part in regular meetings of the team, and provide senior psychiatric advice regarding diagnosis and the development of appropriate treatment plans.

To ensure the timely assessment, treatment and follow up of elderly people with psychiatric disorders who require the intervention of our specialist services.

To promote mental health and independence for elderly people.

To provide input 2PAs per week to the Barnet Memory Service for the assessment and treatment of patients with cognitive impairment concerns within allocated sector.

To take part in weekly MDT meeting

To take part in the monthly business meeting, operational management meeting and senior management meeting.

To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.

As a senior clinician, to have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of the clinical pathways and priorities of the service.

We are the North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) providing high quality mental health care to local people across the London Boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington.

Previously two separate mental health trusts working in Partnership Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust we formally merged and became the new NLFT on Friday 1 November 2024.

As the NLFT we are a strong and influential voice for mental health to ensure that everyone gets the most appropriate care, when they need it - wherever they live and whatever their circumstances. We provide 24/7 support for local people in a mental health crisis and if inpatient care is needed, we admit to one of our beds locally, so our service users are as close as possible to their family and friends.
