Job description

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Obstetrician with an interest in Perinatal Mental Health. You will join a team of 27 consultants working across the field of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in a busy District General Hospital. This post is an Obstetrics only role covering antenatal clinics, postnatal debrief clinics, elective caesarean section lists and resident on calls with no non-resident shifts. All acute services including the labour ward are based at the Princess Royal site with antenatal clinics also provided at both the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital sites.


Responsibilities:
  1. Clinical Antenatal clinics including perinatal mental health and bereavement care
  2. Postnatal debrief clinics
  3. Resident Obstetric shifts (acute work) (days and nights)
  4. No non-resident on-calls
  5. Elective caesarean section lists
  6. Further SPA roles can be decided once appointed with roles such as MDT & PROMPT training or Governance & Risk available should you wish
  7. To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients
  8. To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team
  9. To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners
  10. To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) is the main provider of acute hospital services for around half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and mid Wales. Encompassing some of the most picturesque parts of England and Wales, the Trust's catchment stretches from the Cambrian Mountains in the west, to Newport and the fringes of the Black Country in the east. Our main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury which are located 20 minutes' drive apart. Together they provide 99% of our activity. Both hospitals provide a wide range of acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.
