Main duties of the job

We are pleased to advertise this substantive post for a consultant obstetrician with a special interest in maternal medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a highly dedicated multidisciplinary maternity team and contribute to the Wessex Maternal Medicine Network (WMMN).

As a Consultant Obstetrician at Princess Anne, you will work closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, including midwives, neonatologists, anaesthetists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, to deliver individualised, evidence-based care.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless coordination among specialties, fostering a patient-centered approach to provide holistic care. Your expertise will extend to developing and implementing clinical protocols and guidelines, driving quality improvement initiatives, providing education and mentoring junior staff within the unit.

Job responsibilities

Key duties include:

  1. Provision of high-risk obstetric and maternal medicine clinic services.
  2. General obstetric services for the local population, including outpatient and inpatient antenatal care, labour ward, and Maternity Day Assessment Unit coverage.
  3. Provision of elective caesarean section lists.
  4. Participation in the non-resident Obstetric On-Call rota.
  5. Contribution to management, service development, and clinical governance.
  6. Participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education and supervision.
