Job summary

A healthcare organization in the UK seeks proactive and motivated individuals for Consultant roles in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Candidates are expected to have relevant qualifications including MBBS and CCT. The positions require experience in the NHS and a commitment to patient care. Successful applicants will primarily work at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, covering multiple sites as needed.

Qualifications

  • Completed the Labour Ward ATSM module and Urogynaecology and Vaginal Surgery ATSM or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working in the NHS for at least 1 year.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently handle common emergencies in general obstetrics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide cover for both obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • Ensure safe birth and clinical care of patients.
  • Supervise junior medical staff.

Job summary

Two posts available:

  • With a specialist interest in Early Pregnancy or rapid access gynaecology
  • With a specialist interest in Obstetrics

We are looking for 2 proactive, motivated, forward thinking and dynamic individuals to join our Consultant team at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. These are substantive posts based at Royal Hampshire County Hospital and the successful applicants will provide cover for both obstetrics and gynaecology.

The department welcomes candidates committed to both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Post 1 welcomes applications from candidates with an interest in early pregnancy and acute gynaecology or rapid access gynaecology. Post 2 welcomes applications from candidates with a demonstrable obstetric interest including maternal medicine. The ability to provide obstetric ultrasound scanning would be an advantage.

The posts are advertised as full time posts attracting 10PAs. The successful candidate will be based primarily at our Winchester site (The Royal County Hampshire Hospital), although all staff are expected to work across sites if the need arises and sessions may well be in Winchester, Basingstoke and Andover.

There is a 1 in 9 non-resident on-call commitment providing cover for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Main duties of the job

All applicants should have completed the Labour Ward ATSM module and the Urogynaecology and Vaginal Surgery ATSM or equivalent experience. Applicants are expected to have been awarded CCT (or be within 6 months of award of CCT at the time of interview) and be on the GMC Specialist Register.

Professional Qualifications

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • On the GMC Specialist Register and holding the CCT or within 3 months of obtaining the CCT (with evidence of sound progression)
  • Advanced Labour ward ATSM or equivalent
  • Urogynaecology and Vaginal Surgery ATSM or equivalent

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable expertise in Gynaecology scanning
Experience & Knowledge

Essential:

  • Able to deal independently with common emergencies in general obstetrics
  • Experience of working in the NHS for at least 1 year
  • Desire to support and promote safe birth
  • Accredited expertise in the area of declared interest

Desirable:

  • Adult Basic Life Support training up to date within 12 months
  • Neonatal Resuscitation training up to date within 12 months
  • Emergency drills training up to date within 12 months
  • ALSO, PROMPT or MOET instructor
Skills & Ability

Essential:

  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Proven ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and display leadership

Desirable:

  • Ability to offer MVA
Research & Teaching

Essential:

  • Experience of teaching and supervising junior medical and midwifery staff.
  • Evidence of undertaking an audit, service review or guideline which improved patient care

Desirable:

  • Experience of managing emergency drills training
  • Publications in a peer reviewed journal
  • Formal training in teaching eg Training the Trainers Course
