A leading healthcare provider in Leeds is seeking a Consultant Obstetric Physician to enhance the Maternal Medicine service in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Job summary
We are looking for an individual to fill this new post hosted by the Maternity Services at the Leeds General Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital and working as part of the Yorkshire and Humber Maternal Medicine Network.
This post has been developed as part of a national strategy to establish Maternal Medicine Networks and is hosted by Leeds Teaching Hospitals. This is an exciting opportunity to support and deliver the maternal medicine service across the Yorkshire and Humber region alongside Maternal Medicine Obstetricians, Consultant Midwife and a wider midwifery team.
Leeds Maternity services are a large tertiary centre which provides regional obstetric services including fetal medicine, maternal medicine and placenta accreta service. The LGI is co-located with a Level 3 surgical (including cardiac) NNU.
Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant should hold Royal College of Physicians FRCP or MRCP and should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have additional expert knowledge acquired over a significant period in Maternal Medicine and a RCP credential in obstetric medicine (pre or post CCT). A strong commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and a research interest is desirable.
Consideration will be given to applicants who wish to work full or part time and those wishing to job share.

This is a 6 PA appointment for a Consultant Obstetric Physician. This post is a new post to support the Yorkshire and the Humber Maternal Medicine Network and provision of Maternal Medicine at LTHT. 6 PAs will be allocated with the role of Obstetric Physician. The post will be based at both St Jamess University Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary with a key role in the delivery and ongoing service development of the Yorkshire and Humber Maternal Medicine Network.
Womens Clinical Service UnitWomens Clinical Service Unit in Leeds provides comprehensive secondary care for the local population and enjoys a position as a regional centre for all subspecialties. There are 20 obstetric Consultants within the Womens Clinical Service Unit.
Obstetric Departments
The St Jamess Maternity Unit, which is located in Gledhow Wing, deals with approximately 4,700 deliveries per year. The Leeds General Infirmary Maternity Unit, located within Clarendon Wing, has around 4,900 deliveries per annum. Each Unit has a General Antenatal Outpatient Department, an Antenatal Day Unit, Maternity Assessment Unit, Fetal Assessment Unit and Obstetric Ultrasound Department. Consultant presence is currently around 85 hours per week at each unit. Fetal Medicine is based at LGI.
Antenatal OutpatientsIn addition to high risk antenatal clinics, there are a variety of specialist clinics run in conjunction with the relevant Physicians on either the St Jamess or LGI site. These include a Cardiac Clinic, Renal Clinic, Diabetic Clinic, Substance Abuse Clinic, Endocrine Clinic (thyroid, adrenal and pituitary), Teenage Pregnancy Clinic, Preterm Labour Clinic, Obstetric Haematology Clinic Rheumatology clinic and Neurology Clinics.The Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit is located at St Jamess and, although it comes under the auspices of Gynaecology, there are naturally close links between the Obstetric Departments and EPAU. A recurrent miscarriage clinic is run from the EPAU providing both a diagnostic service and support in early pregnancy. Fetal Medicine The Fetal Medicine Unit runs clinics five days a week at LGI offering invasive prenatal diagnosis, diagnosis and management of congenital anomalies, rhesus disease including in-utero transfusion.Maternal Medicine Network
The Yorkshire and Humber Maternal Network is a collaborative network of two Maternal Medicine Centres (Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust). Each centre hosts its own Maternal Medicine Obstetric Consultants and Obstetric Physicians. The Network provides a collaborative approach for these teams to work together across Y&H as an MDT to develop, lead pathways and provide care across Yorkshire and Humber.
