Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Nurse/Practitioner position within Urgent and Emergency Medicine at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The Consultant Nurse/Practitioner for Urgent & Emergency Medicine (UEM) will serve as a role model for expert, autonomous clinical practice, with responsibility for leading the development of nursing standards and advanced practice across UEM.As an integral member of the UEM leadership team, the post holder will work in close collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues to shape and deliver the clinical strategy for urgent and emergency care -- ensuring safe, timely, and effective care that meets national standards and local population needs.

The Consultant Nurse/Practitioner will lead the development and delivery of advanced nursing practice within the Emergency Departments, and support consistency and quality across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. They will also play a key role in designing and implementing new emergency care pathways, working across organisational boundaries to support integrated care and reduce avoidable hospital admissions.

Main duties of the job
  • Act as a role model for expert clinical nursing practice, participating directly in the delivery of care to patients within UEC.
  • Lead as an expert clinical practitioner, utilising advanced skills in assessment, clinical decision-making, and diagnostics to manage a defined patient caseload.
  • Contribute to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of emergency care services in line with national policy and local strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with clinical and managerial colleagues to develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocols that improve patient care.
  • Line manage and provide strategic leadership to the team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs), and trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners (t-ACPs).
  • Inspire and motivate staff through expert leadership, fostering a high-performance culture based on innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify current and future training needs of staff in the ED to support high standards of care delivery.
  • Work closely with the practice education team and local education providers to support learning and development opportunities.
