Consultant Microbiologist

Part time – 6PAs per week (24 hours)

£107,144 - £142,369 per annum pro rata

Applications are invited for a part-time Consultant in Medical Microbiology, which is partially a replacement post.

The Department provides a Medical Microbiology and Infection Control service for the Highland Health Board area. The post offers flexible working patterns to suit you and the Department. On-call duties are weekend-only on a 1:5 rota with a 3% availability supplement plus time off in-lieu. Hybrid working arrangements can be negotiated prior to start.

The Medical Microbiology Department is part of the Acute Division. The current Clinical Lead for Microbiology is Dr. Mary Peirse, and the Clinical Director for the Clinical Support Division is vacant.

The Department offers comprehensive diagnostic services including Culture (Bacteria/Mycology), Molecular (Bacterial & Viral), and Serology (Bacterial, Viral, Toxoplasma, Lyme Disease, Tick-borne infections, and Laboratory Immunology). Most services are delivered at Raigmore Hospital, with some respiratory virus testing in Rural General Hospitals in Fort William, Wick, and Oban. It processes over 200,000 samples annually and is UKAS accredited against ISO15189:2022.
