These posts help deliver an integrated approach to managing the increasingly frail and complex patients within Salisbury and the surrounding rural area, based out of Salisbury Foundation Trust (SFT). Our Medicine for Older People team is currently modernising its care for frail elderly patients, with a new Acute Frailty Unit now established alongside dedicated Elderly Care wards. There is ongoing development of frailty SDEC services and integration of a Hospital@Home service. These services will be run alongside already established Orthogeriatrics, Parkinson's Disease (in hospital and community), Falls, Surgical Liaison, Rapid Access and Community services. Successful candidates will be involved with working within and leading these services, whilst also developing the services offered.
Interviews for this post will be 23rd May 2025
We are keen to support applicants in developing their specialty interests with a view to providing and enhancing our current service provision. In particular, we have recently opened our new AFU / SDEC unit that functions alongside established Elderly Medicine wards, whilst further developments include enhancing the surgical liaison service, further establishing Hospital@Home and frailty services, therefore providing an integrated approach to acute and non-acute Geriatric Medicine encompassing community and hospital care. Post holders will have opportunities to work and develop across these areas, whilst an ethos of improving the service we can provide to Elderly frail patients is well established.
Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust (SFT) is an innovative hospital with a proud heritage and over 250 years of experience behind us. Here we're driven to deliver an outstanding experience for everyone and have been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment we continue to provide for our patients and also our staff.
We are an acute Trust, rated "Good" by the CQC, with a track record of high performance providing regional and super regional specialist services such as: Burns, Plastics & Reconstructive Surgery, Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory, Wessex Rehabilitation, Spires Cleft Centre and the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre. We have about 470 beds and employ over 4000 staff.
We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. We think working here is pretty rewarding. You can access a range of NHS discounts, receive a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme. On-site benefits include car parking (fee applies), leisure centre, day nursery and holiday play scheme.
Salisbury is an attractive place to live and work and really gives you the best of everything. With easy access to London and local airports, the city of Southampton is only a short train or car journey away or if you prefer the sea, Bournemouth is also accessible.
The successful candidate will be expected to take part in the acute medical on call rota at SFT on a 1:16 basis, as well as other clinical commitments such as acute care ward rounds, frailty same day emergency care, rapid access clinics, Specialist clinics (including Parkinson's disease and falls), and MDT meetings.
The post is advertised as full time (10 PAs), but less than full time or flexible working would also be welcomed.
There is also a generous relocation package available to candidates, up to a maximum of £8,000 (terms and conditions apply), as well as a £22,000 welcome payment (terms and conditions apply).
