Job description
Overview

We are seeking to appoint a 6th Consultant within the Urology department to join our multidisciplinary team and provide a consultant-led service to the population of NMUH. The 6th Consultant Urologist will participate in a 1 in 6 on-call rota with prospective cover. In keeping with London Emergency standards and to maintain continuity of care, all patients will review daily by the on-call consultant.

This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (8.5 PAs direct clinical care and 1.5 PAs supporting professional activities). There is an expectation that by taking on other Trust-wide Service and Quality roles, 1 additional SPA will be allocated in place of a DCC, subject to Divisional agreement. Applications for less than full-time working and job-sharing would be considered.

Main duties and responsibilities

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their clinical manager in line with the Job Planning Guidelines in force in the Trust. Once agreed with the Clinical Manager, job plans are finally signed off by the Medical Director or delegated Associate Medical Director. An indicative job plan is provided below and will normally be reassessed after 3 months of appointment to ensure it meets the needs of both the applicant and the service. Job plans are reviewed annually, usually following an Appraisal meeting. Applicants are encouraged to study the provisions of the Consultant Contract for England 2003 under which this post is offered. On-call frequency will be 1 in 6 including weekends and includes weekend ward rounds to comply with London Emergency Surgical Standards. Unpredictable work is carried out from home, returning to work within 30 minutes as dictated by the caseload.
