The NHS is seeking a full-time Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, specializing in Upper Limb Shoulder and Elbow surgery. This position requires extensive experience in treating upper limb conditions, both elective and trauma, and involves duties across both Kent & Canterbury Hospital and William Harvey Hospital. The successful candidate will participate in the on-call rota and contribute to the department's teaching commitments, offering a dynamic work environment in one of the largest NHS trusts in England.
Job summary
Applications are invited for a full-time permanent Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery with special interest in Upper Limb Shoulder and Elbow surgery to join a dynamic team of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Candidates will need to show evidence of specialist training in upper limb surgery. It is desirable that the selected candidate increase the skill mix within the current unit. The candidate must also be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and experience of treating upper limb conditions, both elective and trauma, as well as be competent in general non-specialist trauma as they will participate in the general on-call rota.
The successful applicant will be expected to work across both our sites at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford as well as the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury. The job plan for the post will include cross cover for elective activity to minimise disruption to elective theatre provision when colleagues are away. There may be an opportunity for additional appropriately remunerated week-end elective activity.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will have a special interest in Upper Limb Shoulder and Elbow arthroplasty and arthroscopic surgery. The Orthopaedic Department operates across two sites, with your primary location for on-call and trauma surgery being William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, Kent. Elective care takes place at Kent & Canterbury Hospital. Duties include fracture clinics, trauma lists and on-call work dealing with a broad mix of trauma including with multiply injured patients. They will also contribute to the general work of the department including a strong teaching commitment, clinical management and effective team working. The on-call rota is 1 in 10 and the successful candidate will be expected to take a full part in the trauma rota.
