Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon.

The successful candidate will join the existing Orthopaedic Team with CTM. The post will have an emergency 'on call' commitment on a 1 in 12.

This post holders will join the team of Consultants, Specialty and Registrar Doctors responsible for the provision of Trauma and Orthopaedic services to Cwm Taf Morgannwg, University Health Board. The post may also be required to undertake sessions across other sites within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

The post will be required to share the responsibility of providing Trauma and Orthopaedic outpatient and inpatient care for the local population and in doing so foster excellent working relationships within and outside the Trauma & Orthopaedic Department.

This post will join the team of consultants responsible for the provision of Trauma and Orthopaedic services to the University Health Board in Cwm Taf Morgannwg. The consultant will be required to undertake sessions across other sites within the organisation. The post holder will be appointed on an equal footing with current colleagues.

Job responsibilities

Management of general trauma & with another sub specialty patients across sites within CTMUHB. Provide professional and managerial supervision of junior medical staff. Have continuing responsibility for the care of patients under his/her care: allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff; ensuring that concise, agreed management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients with complex conditions. Wards rounds are conducted to identify and assess problems and plan management of care; and be actively available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely. Ensure that an appropriate model of care is adopted which recognises the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team, the patient and family. Ensure that the use of medical and nursing resources within the department are utilised to their maximum potential.

Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration ?Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: -CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview -CESR or European Community Rights
Research Experience
  • Understands evidence-based practice ?Interest in research & development ?Encourages ongoing learning & an educative culture, both for self and others
  • Publication in peer-reviewed journals
Clinical/Technical expertise
  • Upper limb & General Trauma experience ?Able to undertake a general trauma on call ?Sees patients within a holistic context ?Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients

  • Able to operate effectively in a committee; contributes to strategic decision-making ?Shows self-discipline e.g. record-keeping & legibility ?Able to manage conflicting & unpredictable demands
