Job description

Consultant - Stroke Services

NNUHFT is a vibrant, aspirational organisation, working towards becoming a Neurosciences Centre of Excellence to respond to the National Stroke Plan. We are looking to add to our established Stroke Services team by appointing a seventh substantive, whole time (10PA) Consultant position, to support the expansion of the Stroke Directorate, including the development of mechanical Thrombectomy Services. This appointment provides an exciting opportunity for the successful appointee to join:

  1. A Flexible and friendly multi-disciplinary team
  2. Mature stroke service – with full commitment from Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care board (ICB) and Trust senior management.
  3. Good development potential – research, service, development, and teaching.
  4. Experienced Stroke team across acute/rehabilitation/early supported discharge.

You will be based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) with a rotation to our offsite Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Beech Ward, based at Norwich Community Hospital, part of Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust.

The role is for the provision of consultant medical services to patients admitted onto the Stroke pathway. This includes thrombolysis, HASU ward rounds, ASU ward rounds and rehabilitation ward rounds. Upon commencement, you will agree to a personalised job plan, including clinical commitments, as well as the supervision and teaching of junior doctors involved in the care of our patients.

Contributing to the 7 days a week stroke consultant ward rounds to all of our hyper acute stroke patients. There is an on-call rota specifically for Stroke only, with a frequency of approximately 1 in 7 with prospective cover including thrombolysis. Compensatory time off during the week is factored into this rota.

The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (NNUH) is one of the busiest teaching trusts in England. We serve over 900,000 people across Norfolk, North Suffolk and surrounding areas for specialist services.

Our vision is to ‘provide every patient with the care we want for those we love the most’. Our PRIDE values support our vision and guide the behaviour of everything we do.
