Consultant in Stroke Medicine

The Great Western Hospital is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for Stroke Medicine Consultants to join our existing team.

Whether you are starting your career as a Consultant in a supportive Stroke Service or an experienced Consultant seeking a new challenge, we are a close-knit team dedicated to providing excellent patient care. We welcome applicants with experience in Stroke Medicine, from GIM, Stroke, or Neurology backgrounds.

The successful candidate will work closely with the current team to improve stroke pathways and SSNAP performance, ensuring a patient-centered service.

The Stroke/Neurology team is based in the Betjeman Centre, GWH, which houses outpatient clinics, a day hospital, therapy Centre, and administrative offices. A dedicated Stroke rehabilitation service is provided by SWICC on-site.

Main duties of the job

The duties outlined are not exhaustive and may change based on service needs.

Clinical Duties:

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team working with regular MDT discussions.
  • Provide evidence-based care in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Take responsibility for patient care, including administrative duties (with secretarial support).
  • Develop sub-specialty interests aligned with division needs and trust strategy.
  • Contribute to teaching, examinations, accreditation, and medical education activities.
  • Support colleagues during their leave periods.
  • Engage in clinical audits and ongoing medical education.
  • Respond to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours consultant rota.
