A prestigious NHS Trust in the UK is looking for a Consultant in Stroke & Geriatric Medicine to join their team. The role involves developing stroke services, providing patient care, participating in clinical governance, and training junior staff. We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Stroke & Geriatric Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Stroke Department. Our client's Medicine for Older People services are throughout all 4 sites of the Trust with the acute stroke unit and four acute MfOP wards on the main site and step down and rehabilitation wards on all other 3 sites. The directorate is currently in the process of developing and strengthening its stroke pathway and frailty pathway, ensuring patients are provided with the correct standard of care in the right environment. The directorate also provides Ortho‑Geriatric support for the fractured neck of femur pathway. The directorate provides a comprehensive service for older patients both in hospital and in the surrounding community and comprises of integrated acute services, with designated elderly out‑patient and in‑patient rehabilitation services.
The successful appointee will be expected to fulfil various duties, these include: To take a shared role in the development of the stroke medicine service, in conjunction with the management team and consultant colleagues in the department of Medicine for Older People, to develop and support sub‑acute rehabilitation for stroke patients in community hospitals and community settings; To provide an TIA service at RBH4; To provide continued clinical responsibility for the patients under his/her care in conjunction with colleagues in medicine for older people; To take part in agreed provision of cover for consultant colleagues during leave; To develop and promote services that minimise hospital stay and maximise opportunities for recovery and independent living; to participate in medical audit and clinical governance; To provide professional supervision, direction and training to junior medical staff; to participate in postgraduate teaching & to attend meetings of the Directorate of Medicine for Older People, Rehabilitation and Stroke.
