Opportunity:
A great opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Rheumatology to join a small but punchy hospital group in a beautiful region of South West Scotland.
You will join a growing team working closely with the Consultants and Associate Specialists delivering high-quality rheumatology services to the people of the region and contributing to the Acute/General Medicine team. The post is for 40 hours a week and you will have the opportunity to teach and supervise nursing and junior medical staff as well as medical students from the Scottish Universities.
The consultant job plan is flexible and open to negotiation on appointment. The post will be offered on a 10-12 PA contract, depending on the post-holder’s preference and subject to agreement of a job plan with the Board. The balance between direct clinical care and supporting professional activities will be discussed and agreed between the Board and the successful applicant.
The current on-call commitment is 1 in 12 with prospective cover attracting a 3% availability supplement.
RHEUMATOLOGY SERVICE
The Rheumatology team provides a growing and comprehensive range of services delivered primarily in the outpatient setting, as well as ambulatory/day case treatment in a dedicated unit and inpatient care accommodated within the medical wards. Clinics are run on a hub and spoke model on the Dumfries and Stranraer sites. There are close links with tertiary services in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
As well as general and early inflammatory arthritis services, sub-specialist interests within the department include connective tissue disease, Giant Cell Arteritis (rapid access service in development), and osteoporosis.
You will be encouraged in further sub-specialty and service development.
