Job description

We have been assigned by one of the UK's most prestigious NHS Trusts to help recruit a Consultant in Rheumatology on either a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.

About the Trust

The Trust is the larger acute hospital in the area, with 578 in-patient beds, and a second site with 42 beds, extensive outpatient services, and a newly opened Urgent Care Centre. The ED serves over 310,000 people, operating 24/7, with 85,000 new patients annually. The hospital offers a wide range of specialties including medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, paediatrics, obstetrics, and gynaecology. It has been rated 'Good' by the CQC. Role Responsibilities
  • Mainly outpatient duties within the department.
  • Receive approximately 2000 new referrals and provide around 10,000 appointments annually, including nurse-led clinics.
  • Manage roughly 5 ward referrals per week.
  • Utilize ultrasound equipment for early diagnosis of inflammatory arthritis.
  • Work within shared care agreements and participate in urgent referral pathways, including early arthritis and temporal arteritis clinics with Vascular Ultrasound support.
  • Contribute to Clinical Governance, Audit, and education of junior medical staff.
  • Develop your own specialty interests within Rheumatology.
Support and Facilities

The department has dedicated Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy support, secretarial assistance, and access to ultrasound clinics. There is also an Electronic Advice and Guidance service run by consultants.
