Job description

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

This is a permanent contract with the position commencing ASAP.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for a full-time Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with an interest in Severe Asthma at University Hospitals Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. This substantive 10PA post (7.25 DCC, 1.75 SPA, 1PA research) requires full GMC registration.

You will join a large, supportive department of 25 consultants with multiple sub-specialties and regional referral services. The role includes 18 weeks of inpatient work across respiratory and general medicine, plus outpatient clinics in complex home ventilation, pleural disease, and COPD.

The home ventilation service manages 400+ patients across the south coast, supported by two consultants and a multidisciplinary team. The pleural service involves three consultants and ACPs, providing outpatient procedures (thoracoscopy, ICD insertion) and inpatient support. Within COPD, you will join three consultants and a large integrated team with community and primary care links, contributing to outpatient clinics and the regional lung volume reduction service.

Research time will initially support COPD-related clinical trials, with opportunities to expand in line with your interests. Southampton has an international reputation in respiratory research, and teaching opportunities are available within or beyond the medical school.
