An established industry player is seeking a passionate Consultant in Public Health to lead their Population Health department. This is an exciting opportunity to provide Public Health leadership across the Trust, the local system, and the wider North East and North Cumbria region.
You will be responsible for delivering the Trust Population Health strategy, which includes four key areas of focus:
You will lead a small Population Health team and influence the wider organisation and partners concerning Public Health. The postholder will engage regularly with senior leaders, providing advice and guidance on Population Health matters. Working with a diverse range of stakeholders including NHS staff, local authorities, voluntary sectors, researchers, and communities, you will support an ambitious work plan.

The postholder will provide strategic advice and manage the operational aspects of the Population Health department. Establishing strong relationships with internal and external colleagues to enhance prevention and address health inequalities is essential.
A high level of intellectual rigor, political awareness, negotiation, and flexibility is required. The postholder must demonstrate excellent negotiation and motivational skills, and the ability to build effective relationships, challenge, and advocate across organisational boundaries. Collaboration with Local Authority Public Health teams, NHS bodies, voluntary and community organisations, and the Integrated Care System will be crucial to ensure a strategic, evidence-based approach to improving population health.
The scope includes tackling health inequalities, promoting preventative care, environmental sustainability, and working with partners, including local communities.
You will be a Consultant in Public Health or Medicine, with either specialist registration in public health or inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Public Health Medicine.

The postholder will advance the Trust's efforts in health improvement and reducing inequalities across patients, families, staff, and the wider community, managing multiple demands and tight deadlines.
Strong negotiation, leadership, and partnership skills are essential, with experience working across NHS, local government, and voluntary sectors. The role involves influencing system-wide strategies and working closely with Local Authority Public Health teams to improve health determinants and outcomes.
Model compassionate and inclusive leadership and lead the Trust’s environmental sustainability initiatives in collaboration with partners.
This role requires a DBS check under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1975.
