Consultant Salary £111,430 – £148,064 per annum

40 hours per week

or

Band 8d £103,764 - £108,206 per annum

37 hours per week

Plus Distant Islands Allowance of £1,406 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen with NHS Western Isles, to join the Public Health Department as a Consultant in Public Health. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an established and experienced public health team, and participate in a range of professional activities in the Western Isles. The remit is exciting and varied, and there is considerable potential for learning and career advancement. Applications are welcome from consultants at all stages in their career, including those soon to finish specialist training.

The portfolio covers the three domains of public health, and there is flexibility to explore particular areas of interest. You will work closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues internally and in partner organisations on a variety of projects, including the implementation of the Western Isles public health strategy. You will support the health protection on call rotation, typically one week in every six weeks. The on call element is normally undertaken from home, and you will be paid a supplement for this in addition to your basic salary.

There is scope for involvement in regional work through the North of Scotland Public Health Network, and opportunities to be part of national groups and networks. You will have line management responsibility for staff within the department and contribute to the development and delivery of training for the public health team.

The post is based at the Western Isles Health Board Office in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, where most of the Public Health team are located. There will be occasional travel to other islands, to work with team members based in the public health offices in Benbecula and Barra. The post is full time, although consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work part time.

This role is eligible for a relocation expenses payment of up to £8,000. NHS Western Isles can provide short term accommodation if required, as well as assistance in securing longer term accommodation locally.

The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme).

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Health and Care Worker visa. NHS Western Isles (NHSWI) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).
