Job description
Overview

An opportunity has arisen at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) for a Consultant in Palliative Medicine.

The successful candidate will be a core member of the specialist palliative care team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Play a leading role in the development and delivery of the clinical service for patients with progressive, incurable Respiratory disease.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance to other colleagues in the management of palliative care patients during the day.
  • Play a leading role in the development of the coordinated approach to palliative care across the hospital, community and hospice boundaries.
  • Further develop multi‑professional specialist palliative care team working across health and social care agencies.
  • Maintain close relationships with MFT oncology services and other related hospital specialities.
  • Help develop and co‑ordinate protocols of referral and symptom control guidelines which are then the subject of clinical audit.
  • Develop multi‑professional palliative care teaching, research and audit to ensure a sound evidence base for palliative care practice.
  • Participate in the education programmes for medical undergraduates and postgraduate medical education across hospital, primary care and hospice sectors.
  • Provide education and clinical supervision for junior medical staff in palliative medicine.
  • Play a role in ensuring continuing professional development and post graduate training in palliative care for tumour specific groups and other clinical teams.
