St Joseph's Hospice and Newham Hospital are seeking a substantive consultant to join their team on a joint contract.

The Consultant in Palliative Medicine will provide specialist care to community, hospital, and hospice patients. The role is divided equally between St Joseph’s Hospice (STJH) and Newham University Hospital, with a 5:5 split of programmed activities per week.

The consultant will participate in a 1 in 8 on-call rota.

There is flexibility to develop aspects of the hospice posts following discussions within the team.

Clinical responsibilities:
  • The consultants are responsible for St Joseph's Hospice patients in City and Hackney, Tower Hamlets, and Newham, divided into two areas.
  • They will work at Newham University Hospital providing consultant input to the hospital palliative care team.
  • Provide consultant input to weekly MDT meetings for both community areas and hospital.
  • Undertake caseload reviews, visits, and provide advice.
  • Support and lead the day hospice.
  • Cross cover each other for leave, including ward cover and hospital cover as needed.
