A leading teaching hospital trust in Leeds seeks a Pediatric Endocrinology Consultant to maintain high-quality regional services, participate in research, and deliver care. Job summary
Required to fill this new post which will deliver 9 PAs. The Department of Paediatric Endocrinology currently comprises 5 consultants and four specialist nurses. The Endocrinology department provides a tertiary level service for West, East and North Yorkshire and Humberside. It provides a comprehensive service at Leeds Childrens Hospital and an extensive outreach service. It has one of the largest footprints of any endocrine department in terms of population and area covered. In 2013 Leeds was also established as the northern hub of the nationally commissioned Gender Identity Development (GID) service. This service is currently undergoing a national re-organisation.
As a recognised tertiary paediatric endocrinology service, it covers all disorders of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-gonadal axis, as described in the National Service Specification. Specialist clinics include late endocrine effects in malignancy, metabolic bone disease, obesity (including Complications of Excess Weight service), Turner Syndrome and GID. Combined clinics are undertaken at regular intervals with paediatric surgeons, gynaecologists and adult endocrinologists, and pathways for transitional care are established. There are also close working relations with supporting staff from pathology, radiology and genetics, with regular multidisciplinary team meetings, audit and clinical governance.

Main duties of the jobThe successful applicant should hold accreditation with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (or equivalent) and should be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, if currently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointment regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the Specialist Register.
Applicants should have established skills in paediatric endocrinology and be able to work independently. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

To share supervision of patients in the day care unit and the wards
To develop shared-care guidelines and contribute towards the development of managed clinical network across the regions
2.2 To link with consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Childrens Hospital and across the West Yorkshire region
2.3 To deliver acute on call telephone advice (1 in 3.6) for consultants within the Trust and across the West Yorkshire region. This includes being present on-site during normal working hours to manage acute issues and being available for telephone advice for out-of-hours cover.
2.4 To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the speciality of paediatric endocrinology. The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the current clinical research programs and develop new projects if desired.
