The successful candidate would join a department of 42 Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetists delivering sessions across RMCH, The Christie Hospital (the largest single-site cancer centre in Europe, including anaesthetic services for the proton beam therapy centre), Trafford Hospital, and Wythenshawe Hospital.

The department provides anaesthesia for a wide range of paediatric surgical specialties including neurosurgery, complex airway, hyperinsulinism, palatofacial surgery, burn injury, paediatric urology (including bladder exstrophy), renal transplant surgery, and neonatal surgery.

The post attracts 10 PAs. The job plan may include sessions at any of the hospitals mentioned above, and weekend elective work may be required in the future.

Candidates should demonstrate proven experience in paediatric anaesthetics.

Main duties of the job

The new consultant will provide anaesthesia for services at the hospitals, including contractual commitments. Provision of services will involve a 1 in 15 on-call rota shared with other consultant anaesthetists at RMCH.

The appointee will be contracted for a 10 PA job, comprising 8 direct clinical care PAs and 2 supporting PAs for teaching, audit, CME/CPD, mandatory training, clinical governance, and administrative duties.

The job plan is flexible to meet service needs. The detailed job plan, including exact timings of clinical sessions, will be agreed upon through discussion with the CSU Clinical Lead, depending on service demands.

The clinical commitment will cover a variety of surgical specialties, and the appointee is expected to work at RMCH and its affiliated sites, covering for colleagues' annual, study, and sick leave.
