Consultant in Ophthalmology - Interest in Cornea & External Eye Disease

We are assisting a prestigious NHS Trust in recruiting a Consultant in Ophthalmology with a focus on cornea and external eye disease. The position can be offered on a Substantive or NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.

The Trust is one of the largest in the UK, with a regional Head and Neck Cancer centre. The department comprises nine ophthalmic consultants, each with their own specialist fields, providing both specialized and general ophthalmic services across the area. The Trust boasts a state-of-the-art emergency assessment unit, extensive training opportunities, and excellent facilities including a library, gym, swimming pool, and retail outlets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive ophthalmic services, with a primary focus on developing and managing the cornea and external eye disease service. Candidates must be capable of general ophthalmology, proficient in cataract surgery, and committed to training and education. The role includes participation in a 1:10 on-call rota, emergency duties, and departmental teaching, including postgraduate education and training of nursing staff and healthcare professionals.
