Job description

We are looking for a 1 WTE consultant psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership to the North Bucks OA CMHT. This post has become available after the previous postholder moved to another role within the service. The post holder will work closely with the existing consultant psychiatrists (1.2 WTE) within the team. The team base is at The Whiteleaf Centre in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire

Main duties of the job

The Consultant will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the North Bucks OA CMHT. Their population catchment area extends from the area surrounding Aylesbury to the more rural north of the county and Buckingham area. The post holder will have their own list of GP surgeries. The population covered takes into account the fact that the post does not include in-patient responsibilities (except as cover).

Duties will consist of out-patient appointments (including a memory assessment clinic), domiciliary visits and assessments into patients home and care homes in the area providing support and advice for staff and teaching where appropriate. Please note this list is not intended to be exhaustive. The post holder will have responsibility for those patients seen by himself/herself, together with those patients seen by medical staff directly supervised by the post holder.

Job responsibilities

Applicants for the above vacancies must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and on the Specialist Register or be within six months of attaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or an equivalent approved indicator of training.

Although this is a full time post, we encourage candidates who are interested to work less than full time to apply as well.

We offer a relocation allowance of up to £8,000 for eligible successful candidates.

Qualifications
Essential

  • Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrist's Guidelines)
  • Approved clinician Status and Section 12( MHA) approval are essential. Candidates who are in the process of obtaining AC approval will be considered

Desirable

  • Higher degree or equivalent in relevant field of medical, psychological or other studies or postgraduate teaching qualification

Training
Essential

  • Higher specialist training in old age psychiatry (or dual training) in approved training post for a minimum of three years, equivalent training in another country, or previous consultant experience relevant to this post
  • CCT in Psychiatry OR inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in psychiatry OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview OR CESR

Desirable

  • Sub specialty or other specialist clinical training relevant to post

Clinical Experience and Ability
Essential

  • Experience of the full range of clinical responsibilities expected of a consultant in this specialty
  • Experience of working in a Memory Assessment Service
  • Ability to undertake full range of consultant responsibilities
  • Ability to work within a collaborative multidisciplinary framework, and to share leadership responsibilities with senior colleagues of other professions
  • Ability to understand how organisations work most effectively
  • Commitment to active clinical governance
  • Must have good skills in communication with patients, relatives, colleagues and staff of other organisations. Good spoken and written English.
  • Must have interest in and commitment to people with mental health problems, and their carers.
  • Experience in supervising and teaching core psychiatric trainees

Desirable

  • Development of close collaboration with primary care services
  • Application of evidence-based practice and interest in clinical and policy developments for this care group
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching.
  • Supervision of advanced level trainees
  • Research experience and skills
