Job Title: Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry

Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry to join our team in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. You will provide clinical leadership and expertise in old age mental health, supporting comprehensive psychiatric services for older adults in the community. This is an immediate start for an ongoing 2-month period, working part-time (24 hours per week).
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing expert psychiatric assessment and diagnosis for older adults with conditions such as dementia, depression, anxiety, and psychosis.
- Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines, including pharmacological, psychological, and social interventions.
- Providing leadership and clinical supervision to multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, coordinated care.
- Participating in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and reviews to develop and review care plans and treatment goals.
- Offering education and support to older adults and their families on mental health conditions and management strategies.
- Collaborating with external agencies to facilitate integrated care pathways and improve access to services.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and research activities to enhance mental health care quality.
Requirements:
- Medical degree and specialist training in old age psychiatry, with full GMC registration and inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry.
- Significant post-qualification experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in old age mental health services.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills to motivate teams and engage with patients and families.
- Commitment to person-centered and recovery-oriented care.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Willingness to participate in on-call duties, meetings, and training.
- Older Adults Consultant Psychiatrist experience due to current staffing needs.
- Section 12 Approved Clinician status.
