We are seeking a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry at St John’s Hospital. NHS Lothian is committed to diversity and equality, welcoming applications from all sections of society.
Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practice, and be eligible for the GMC Specialist Register. UK-trained candidates should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.
This is a permanent, part-time position (32 hours/week), based at St John’s Hospital. The role involves providing psychiatric care for patients in a catchment area, including clinic and assessment ward duties, and contributing to a memory clinic alongside a dedicated ANP.
The post comprises 8 sessions: 7 for catchment area work (covering inpatients, outpatients, and community liaison) and 1 SPA session. Responsibilities may be adjusted based on service needs and the applicant's skills and interests.
The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team supporting approximately 9,700 patients. The team includes junior medical staff, a part-time secretary, community mental health team members, social workers, and advanced nurse practitioners.
The role also involves involvement in memory clinics, with assessments supported by on-site facilities like ECG, CT, MRI, SALT, and neuropsychology, and access to scans at other Lothian sites. The postholder will see patients for diagnosis and treatment planning, with additional support from specialists in dementia diagnosis and treatment.
