A major NHS teaching trust is looking for a capable and motivated doctor to join their Maternity Department. The position involves managing obstetric services across two hospitals, providing high-quality care for patients, and participating in teaching and supervision of junior staff. Applicants must be GMC registered and have experience in general obstetrics and antenatal care.
Job summary: Applications are invited to apply for the above post in the Maternity Department at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The department is seeking a capable and motivated doctor who enjoys working in both a District General and tertiary referral service and wishes to effect change and improve care for patients within this service.
The successful candidate will join the maternity service which provides general obstetric services to the local population - 7500 women per year are cared for within the Trust. There are also tertiary referral services in fetal and maternal medicine, supported by a Level 3 neonatal unit.
Main duties of the job: The post-holder's duties will be split between the Horton General, Banbury and the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Clinical Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust provides services across four sites (John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford, Horton Hospital Banbury, Nuffield Orthopaedic Hospital and the Churchill Hospital, Oxford). Obstetric inpatient and outpatient services are based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. In addition, outpatient obstetric clinics are undertaken at the Horton Hospital in Banbury.

Professional qualification: Essential - Primary medical qualification - MBBS / MBChB or Equivalent, MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration, Full GMC registration, Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC) at the time of starting in post, Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of AAC.
Clinical experience and effectiveness: Essential - Broad-based experience in general obstetrics and antenatal care, Competence in managing high-risk pregnancy, especially diabetes, Experience in multidisciplinary care and joint diabetes antenatal clinics, Recent intrapartum care experience, including emergency obstetrics, Experience providing out-of-hours/on-call obstetric care, Familiarity with UK guidelines (NICE, RCOG) on diabetes in pregnancy, Maternal Medicine ATSM or SITM or equivalent.
Teaching and training and research: Essential - Experience of supervising junior staff, Experience of formal and informal contributions to teaching and training for O&G trainees.
Organisational and management experience: Essential - Effective administrative and time management skills, Evidence of leadership of service improvement project leadership within an acute service, Evidence of having implemented change within the clinical setting.
Professional - extra skills or achievements: Essential - Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork.
