CONSULTANT IN MEDICINE OF THE ELDERLY — WESTERN GENERAL HOSPITAL

Applicants must have full GMC Registration, a license to practise and eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview. Portfolio Pathway (formerly known as CESR - Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive consultant post once it has been awarded. Applications are welcome for the above permanent, part time (28 hours per week) post based in the Western General Hospital.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic geriatrician to join our vibrant and dedicated team based at the Western General Hospital.

The job is for a Consultant in Medicine of the Elderly & Stroke Medicine and will be for up to 7 PAs, of which 1 PA will be to support the Medicine of the Elderly on call rota.

The post-holder will provide early specialist review of patients with frailty presenting acutely to hospital through established front door in reach services and have an additional commitment to further developing the early supported discharge pathways. They will lead an MDT in providing a responsive and timely comprehensive assessment in a non-acute setting (Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre) following hospital discharge. The post holder will contribute to the consultant on call rota for Medicine for the Elderly at the Western General Hospital.

We have a strong reputation for excellence in teaching and training, quality improvement and a growing clinical research portfolio. The successful candidate will contribute to service planning; delivery of undergraduate teaching; supervision of doctors in training; clinical governance and quality improvement.

The post is for a Consultant in Medicine for the Elderly and will be for up to 7 PAs. This can be negotiated. Out of hours and on call duties will be as consultant on call rota for Medicine for the Elderly at the Western General Hospital.
