Job summary
Working Full Time : 10 Sessions per week
Applications are invited for a new Consultant post in General Surgery.
The successful candidate will be a full-time appointment in General & Colorectal Surgery. In addition to the management of general surgical cases, the department of colorectal surgery deals with approximately 150-170 new cases of colorectal cancer per year, in addition to all other aspects of benign colorectal disease.

Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate would be expected to complement our existing team of consultants and integrate within our team to provide a complete General Surgery service. The successful candidate will be expected to have a sub-specialty interest in Colorectal Surgery of which expertise in management of advanced colorectal cancer and clinical/academic research are highly desirable.
In addition to the management of general surgical cases and participation in a Consultant Surgeon of the Week (CSOW) rota, the department deals with the full range of colorectal surgery including benign proctology, pelvic floor and inflammatory bowel disorders.
All consultants are expected to participate in the on-call rota (1 in 11 following appointment).

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
