Job summary

Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide leadership and oversight to the Community Adult Learning Disability Service on the Isle of Wight.

The role involves leading a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to an upcoming Intensive Support Team, and working with partners across the trust and Isle of Wight NHS Trust. A £30,000 Golden Hello is offered to successful candidates.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration is required to practise as a consultant psychiatrist.
  • MRCPsych or an equivalent credential is preferred.
  • Eligible for Specialist Register or CCT in learning disability psychiatry at interview.
  • Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983 is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work with senior clinical colleagues to define professional status and responsibilities within the team.
  • Ensure clear staff objectives, safety responsibilities, and open discussion of issues.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external teams for timely information flow.
  • Ensure staff contributions are heard and decisions understood and accepted.
  • Encourage cooperation and effective communication within the team.
  • Coordinate patient care and provide information on contacts for questions or concerns.

Education

Full Registration with the General Medical Council
MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview. CCT in learning disability psychiatry.
Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.

Job description

This post offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious Psychiatrist to support the newly established Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be expected to provide active consultant leadership and oversight to the Community Adult Learning Disability Service on the Isle of Wight.

The Community Adult Learning Disability Team is fully multi-disciplinary, with psychology, nursing, OT, Physio, and a new Art Therapy role soon to be introduced. The Team is dedicated and friendly and work closely with the team of experts by experience and wider system colleagues and services within Hampshire & Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust and the Isle of Wight NHS Trust.

The team are also expecting investment to develop an Intensive Support Team/function in coming months which will be a valuable addition to the range of services offered.

Main duties of the job
