Glan Clwyd Hospital is seeking new consultants in critical care. We offer an excellent opportunity for a fulfilling consultant role in a beautiful, well-connected rural location. The full-time positions are for ten programmed activities (10 PA) per week at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan, North Wales. Typically, seven sessions are for direct clinical care (DCC) and three for supporting professional activities (SPA), in line with the Welsh Consultant contract. We are open to discussing part-time work based on candidate preferences. Additional clinical sessions may be available upon mutual agreement.
Most existing critical care consultants have an anaesthetic background, but recent appointees include intensivists working exclusively in critical care. We welcome applications from single-specialty ICM consultants or those with other specialties such as emergency medicine.
Critical care coverage involves two consultants present daily, acting as 'consultants of the week' (Monday to Sunday), with a subsequent week off. The current team has eight consultants, working 1 in 4 weeks as 'consultant of the week'. Recruitment aims to reduce this frequency.
Daytime activities include theatre lists and occasional critical care days, with flexibility for other specialties. Out-of-hours duties are part of a 1 in 8 rota, with plans to move to 1 in 12.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is Wales' largest health organization, serving North Wales with a range of services across hospitals, clinics, and community settings. BCUHB is committed to compassionate care and has strong links with local universities, fostering a research and learning environment.
