Job summary
We are delighted to seek applications for the post of Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) to join our team in Salisbury.
This substantive position is a replacement post, and the successful applicant will join the 7 existing Intensive Care Consultants who lead patient care in the intensive care unit (ICU), one of the premier services in this high performing Foundation Trust. The CQC recently described Critical Care services as 'Outstanding' in Salisbury.
Our Intensive Care Unit is housed in a modern facility containing 12 physical bed spaces, of which 10 are currently staffed to support a flexible mix of level 2 and level 3 patients.
Interviews for this post will be held on Wednesday, 6th August 2025.
This is a 10 PA post, with the possibility of an additional programmed activity. On average, 4.5 PA are delivered as DCC to ICU, with a further 4 PAs of DCC outside ICU in the applicant's base specialty, and 1.5 SPAs. The postholder may want to allocate time for research during DCC, which can be discussed with Clinical Leads and the Clinical Director upon appointment.
The proportion of SPA would increase with increasing responsibilities after appointment.
Currently, 8 intensive care consultants share the daytime weekday workload equally, with 7 providing out-of-hours non-resident cover. Most current ICM consultants have a second specialty in anaesthesia, with one in Emergency Medicine. Applications are welcome from CCT holders with dual CCTs or single specialty ICM.
