Job summary

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Histopathologist for a permanent, full-time post based at Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals. The appointee will join a busy department, participate in MDTs, and lead cellular pathology within at least one MDT.

Eligible candidates must hold GMC registration and CCT or equivalent. Relocation assistance up to £8,000, plus a £20,000 lump sum and 1.5 SPA time for the first year are offered, with salary in the £113,565–£150,569

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
• FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
• CCT (or equivalent) by interview date or six months from interview.
• UK-trained applicants must have CCT or be within six months of award.
• Non-UK trained applicants must show UK CCT equivalence.
• Ability to take full independent responsibility for reporting surgical pathology.
• Evidence of clinical audit.

Opportunities have arisen to join our teams at Colchester Hospital and Ipswich Hospital.

We are inviting applications for a full-time post, Consultant Histopathologist.

Applicants will have completed CCT or equivalent (Portfolio Pathway) and must be on the Specialist Register. Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

CLINICAL

The new appointee will automatically be a member of the Medical Staff Committee.

• Participate in the departmental rota for routine surgical pathology reporting, and dissection.
• Attend MDTs according to rostering and clinical need.
• Participate in the MDT cancer care structure and assume leadership for cell pathology in at least one MDT according to the interests of the postholder and the needs of the department in consultation with existing consultant colleagues.
• Refer specialist cases to appropriate referral centres for reporting.

Job responsibilities

GENERAL

The post-holder will: Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service of the highest standard Work with multidisciplinary teams to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines Develop and maintain good working practices, including adhering to departmental SOPs and guidelines issued by professional bodies such as the Royal College of Pathologists Offer support and leadership to junior medical colleagues and other members of the team including laboratory, secretarial and mortuary staff. Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care All Consultants have a continuing and individual responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients in their charge. Within Histopathology, Consultants are expected to share in the duties associated with providing an efficient and effective service, making use of all available skill mix including biomedical scientist dissection.

Person Specification

Essential

• Full and specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
• FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
• Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview
• Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
• Ability to take full and independent responsibility for reporting surgical pathology
• Evidence of clinical audit
• Ability to take full and independent responsibility for performing post mortem examinations
