The Royal Devon is seeking to appoint Consultant Physicians in Healthcare for the Older Person and Stroke Medicine based at the Royal Devon & Exeter site in Exeter.
Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust was established in April 2022, bringing together the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and the Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust to provide core services to a population of 615,000 and specialist services to a wider population across the South West Peninsula. It is a unique organisation with integrated acute and community services across North and mid Devon that shares one advanced electronic notes system (EPIC) with an integrated patient portal. The departments of healthcare for the older person are fully integrated and work closely together as one team. Consultants deliver face-to-face, and remote care from both the Barnstaple and Exeter sites. The department will support newly appointed consultants to develop sub-specialty interests and to pursue research and teaching interests.
The Royal Devon is committed to developing services on both sites and wants to bring the very best clinicians to this beautiful part of the country. This is a great opportunity to make your mark by developing and upgrading our elderly care services with the support of our senior management and team of consultants. We have invested significantly in our infrastructure and have a dementia friendly ward, as well as developing pathways for our frail patients to improve access. We are also developing our community hospital beds to become a beacon for non-acute frailty services.
We also operate a very strong non-medical model with excellent therapy leadership and our Pathfinder team are the link between acute and community, helping to reduce admissions and support complex discharges. This team comprises senior nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and social workers as well as support staff, ensuring an excellent level of patient care.
The Trust has a multi-million-pound clinical research facility, is a NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, has a significant development budget, and big plans for the future. In addition to this, we are based in Devon in the South West of England; a county renowned for its natural beauty including pristine beaches and beautiful moorland, excellent schools, good transport links and a great quality of life.
If you are interested in finding out more about the positions available, we would love to hear from you and would be delighted to host an exploratory visit for you.
