Overview

We are inviting applications for Consultant posts in Geriatric Medicine within the Complex Health Department, Medicine Division, across Wythenshawe Hospital and Trafford General Hospital. There are opportunities to work across multiple workstreams and to reflect part-time arrangements. We particularly welcome applicants with interests in Oncogeriatrics and Acute Frailty. Candidates must be eligible for GMC registration; MFT cannot sponsor GMC registration for permanent vacancies.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will contribute to the general medical on-call rota. The role involves working across the Directorate of Complex Health, which also covers Geriatric Medicine, Stroke Medicine and Palliative Medicine. The post is based at Wythenshawe Hospital with potential rotations to Trafford General Hospital, and opportunities to work across all four WTWA site hospitals as appropriate.

Wythenshawe Hospital is a large teaching hospital with multidisciplinary services. Trafford General Hospital offers orthopaedics, rehabilitation and frailty services. There are opportunities to work across sites and specialties as appropriate.

Eligibility and sponsorship

Candidates must be eligible for GMC registration. MFT does not sponsor GMC registration for permanent vacancies. This post may require Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks where applicable.

Person specification and qualifications

Essential:

  • Fully registered Medical Practitioner
  • MRCP
  • Within 6 months of receiving CCST in Geriatric Medicine
  • Within 6 months of receiving CCST in Acute Internal Medicine or General Internal Medicine

Desirable:

  • Post-graduate qualification
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals

Training:

  • As required by the Royal College of Physicians
  • Formal Specialist Registrar training in Geriatric and General Medicine

Professional interests and experience:

  • Specialist interest in one area of Geriatric Medicine
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Active and ongoing interest in research and audit

Management and administration:

  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities and waiting lists
  • Ability to manage and lead a team

Teaching:

  • Interest in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Ability to teach clinical and procedural skills

Domestic:

  • Resident within a reasonable travel time of the hospital or equivalent access
