Job Description:

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

This post offers an exciting opportunity for ambitious and committed Consultants. The expansion of the existing Consultant workforce will allow us to develop new and innovative approaches in the delivery of patient care that meet an increasing demand for our services. We are seeking to appoint motivated and enthusiastic colleagues to work with the team in NHS Ayrshire and Arran. The posts will provide a unique and exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of the service. Situated on the beautiful Clyde Coast, Ayrshire & Arran is a great place to live and work. There is a wealth of beaches, golf courses, bustling market towns, and stunning scenery to explore, yet University Hospital Crosshouse is still within 35 minutes' drive from the heart of Glasgow.

The successful candidates will be based at University Hospital Crosshouse.

The post-holders can expect to see a wide range of clinical presentations with a broad range of specialist services across NHS Ayrshire and Arran. The Service functions as an integrated team, and all members contribute towards outpatient and inpatient care. The duties are biased towards specialist outpatient activity in Renal medicine. The post also includes supervision of inpatient general medical patients, duties in the Combined Assessment Unit, and participation in the out-of-hours medical on-call rota (1:7 weekends and 1:21 nights).

There is an active postgraduate education program, and all doctors are encouraged to participate. Appropriate time, support, and development will be provided to help the successful individual flourish and achieve their professional and personal ambitions.

The terms and conditions are those of the New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004. The posts are initially offered on a 10 programmed activity basis (including 2 SPAs), with opportunities for extra activities depending on service needs and in accordance with national terms. Applications from individuals wishing to work part-time or job share are welcome.

The post-holders will provide leadership and training in expanding innovative community-facing training posts, offering exciting opportunities for doctors within the GP training program and Clinical Development Fellows to work at the interface of Acute, Community, and Primary Care Services within a multidisciplinary team.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran have developed a supportive program for new consultants, including additional management training and a focus on staff wellbeing.

Candidates must be fully registered with a License to Practice, on the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of obtaining CCT or CESR at the time of interview. Accreditation in Renal Medicine is required.

For more information or to arrange an informal visit, contact Dr. Aileen Helps at 01563 825177 or Dr. Elaine Spalding at 01292 614819. Mrs. Debbie Hardie can also discuss the post at 01563 827072.

Applications, including a CV, evidence of registration, and references, should be submitted by 2nd June 2025 (noon). Interviews are anticipated on 16th June 2025. Job packs are available for download, and further organizational details can be found online.
