Opportunity

Working as part of a skillful multi-discipline team, Head Medical are seeking a Consultant Anaesthesia (General) to come to work for a leading private hospital in the UK.

Based in the city of Plymouth, Devon, as part of this professional, friendly, and compassionate team, you will do everything you can to ensure the patient’s treatment is of the highest standard. This organisation focuses on ensuring that our patients receive high-quality treatment quickly, in clean and comfortable surroundings.

As the successful appointee in this key role, you'll be anaesthetising patients for all kinds of procedures – from ophthalmology to orthopaedics, and from gynaecology to general surgery. Alongside your clinical responsibilities, you'll also have the chance to get involved in the administrative and managerial aspects of the department, and in the development of less experienced colleagues.

This is on an elective basis except where a postoperative patient requires a return to theatre. You additionally will be required to attend OPD on a rota basis to help in the pre-assessment of patients prior to surgery.

The post holder will be required to have completed a substantial number of procedures identified above independently. Applicants will be expected to have an excellent clinical quality record and be able to demonstrate the ability to perform efficiently in theatre.

A typical job plan will comprise of 40 hours of clinical activity per week, including Saturdays on occasions, with flexible elements. Five hours for SPA is given per week, but employees are expected to work flexibly where necessary when colleagues are on leave - rotas are planned months in advance.

Requirements to apply?

  • UK registered Medical Degree.
  • Past record of FRCA academic achievement or equivalent specialised training
  • Full and Specialist GMC Registration in Anaesthesia
  • ALS
  • Wide training and experience in anaesthesia.
  • Able to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in anaesthesia.
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
