Job description

I have been assigned by an NHS Trust in the UK to help them recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.

The appointee will join an expanding, innovative, and dynamic department comprising 85 Consultants, 40 Trainees, and 20 Senior Clinical Fellows/Clinical Fellows, providing anaesthetic services at a modern teaching hospital. The main theatre suite has 22 theatres, with additional theatres in the Treatment Centre, neurosurgery, Eye Unit, obstetrics, and Day Surgery Unit.

The Department of Anaesthesia offers comprehensive services across various specialties including Accident Service/Orthopaedics/Major Trauma, Breast Surgery, Dental, ECT, ENT, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Radiotherapy/Oncology, among others.

The hospital's core functions include clinical care, research, and teaching. It serves as a local emergency, surgical, medical, and maternity care provider, and is a biomedical research centre affiliated with the NIHR, part of the UK’s academic health science centres, and a university teaching hospital with a global reputation. It is also a partner in the Biomedical Campus development and a national centre for complex treatments such as organ transplantation, cancer, neurosciences, and paediatrics.

The appointee will undertake duties including providing consultant-level anaesthetic services, participating in teaching and examinations, contributing to education activities nationally and locally, out-of-hours responsibilities including on-call duties, and engaging in medical audits and clinical governance.
