Job description

Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry & Community Medical Lead

Clinical duties of post holder:

  1. Provide senior clinical advice and support to the daily triage, MDT, and other regular clinical team meetings.
  2. Ensure that all referrals are triaged daily and responded to in a timely manner.
  3. Assess new patients and provide clinical supervision of assessments carried out by other team members.
  4. Review complex needs patients to ensure appropriate care packages are implemented.
  5. Perform work related to the Mental Health Act.
  6. Conduct domiciliary visits to provide assessment and treatment services as a member of the CMHT.
  7. Carry out domiciliary assessments in response to emergencies.
  8. Perform occasional psychiatric assessments of residents who may be in crisis in other boroughs.
  9. Ensure physical health needs are addressed.
  10. Review and monitor caseloads to facilitate appropriate care packages and discharges, maintaining patient flow.
  11. Develop good working relationships with local GPs and other providers.
  12. Provide mental health advice and support to GPs and primary care clinicians through surgery visits and other means to aid patient management.
  13. Maintain close liaison with wards to facilitate admission and discharge planning.
  14. Liaise with CRHTT, Psychiatric Liaison Services, AMHP services, and Forensic Services in the borough.
  15. Develop relationships with local voluntary sector services to support and promote recovery.
  16. Follow cross-cover protocols to ensure appropriate coverage during absences.

Leadership responsibilities:

  1. Lead in quality improvement initiatives by identifying areas for enhancement and engaging actively in QI activities.
  2. Meet regularly with the team and service managers to ensure targets related to quality, finance, and performance are met.
  3. Support recruitment efforts and work to retain team members effectively.
  4. Provide line management and clinical supervision to junior and senior trainees and/or specialty doctors.
  5. Contribute to teaching medical students.
  6. Participate in service development initiatives.
  7. Build and maintain relationships with Primary Care Networks to respond to their evolving needs and support integrated care efforts.
