Job description

Job summary

This post offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious psychiatrist to support a unique NHS trust going through transition and maintaining safe and effective services during this period. Post-holders will be expected to take on an active role providing consultant leadership and oversight that could include inpatient care, recovery service, early intervention in psychosis service, crisis resolution and home treatment as well as adult (ageless) community mental health services.

Main duties of the job

Consultants will use their skills and expertise to achieve the best care for service users, with a focus on providing supervision and oversight of the team and the assessment and management of complexity and severity. This includes:

  1. Ensuring evidence-based practice and service user-centred recovery principles to assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate all interventions provided by the MDT to promote recovery and independence.
  2. Focusing on the management of service users presenting with the greatest complexity and severity, which will necessitate working with a small caseload to respond flexibly and promptly to the needs of the most unwell or urgent cases.
  3. Managing complex information and making formulations using a biopsychosocial model.
  4. Ensuring appropriate and effective engagement with carers and ward teams.
  5. Managing risk and weighing complex risk information to deliver care in the best interests of the individual's recovery, supporting the MDT through clear communication, containing anxiety, and maintaining hope.
  6. Ensuring the service complies with care planning, risk management, and safeguarding policies.
  7. Maintaining a focus on outcomes, both clinical and experiential.
  8. Providing education, supervision, and oversight over the caseload in MDT/triage meetings.
