Job overview

CNWL are currently looking for a full time permanent Consultant Psychiatrist, to provide input to a high functioning Community Mental Health Team as part of a multi-disciplinary service (North Kensington Mental Health Hub -CMHH).

The North K&C Community Mental Health Hub (NK&C CMHH) is based at Hathaway House. This is a fairly new purpose-built building for community mental health services. The North K&C CMHH is based on the ground floor.

The team is multi-disciplinary and well resourced. It consists of two PCNs (Neohealth PCN and Westhill/Inclusive PCN). The North Hub team’s caseload is around 600-700 patients (300-350 per PCN). It receives on average 25-30 new referrals per week and approximately around 100-120 patients are transferred back to primary care per month.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of high quality care in North Kensington & Chelsea community mental health team.

Supervision, teaching and training of junior medical staff, medical students, specialist nurses, other nurses and other MDT staff.

To participate actively in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Care Quality, and service evaluation projects.

Kensington and Chelsea (K&C) adult mental health service provides a range of mental health services for adults across the age range within the community and in hospital settings.

These services are based at:
• St Charles Hospital with 8 inpatient wards: two adult PICUs, four adult acute wards, two Older Adult wards and Mental Health Crisis Assessment unit (MHCAS)
• Community Mental Health Hubs (CMHH) - north and south community team bases for adult MH services including Psychology and Psychotherapy services
• older and younger adult psychiatric liaison services based at South Kensington site, next to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital with health psychology services
• KCW Early Intervention Service
• K&C Home Treatment Team (HTT)
• Mental Health Act Team (AMHP Team)
• Psychology and Psychotherapy Services including Clinical Psychologists embedded in the CMHHs and inpatient unit, Arts Psychotherapy, and other specialist family and individual psychotherapies
• Re-FoCUS Team (community forensic service) at Hathaway House

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Core Clinical Responsibilities:

The post holder will have principal duties to provide clinical care to Kensington and Chelsea patients under Westhill/Inclusive PCN. They will be supported by the MDT team that includes a Specialty doctor (full time), and 1 GPVTS, as well as other professionals such as pharmacist, psychologists, occupational therapists and employment specialists.

The post holder will provide joint leadership with the manager, for the performance culture of the team, ensuring best practice is employed, and that the Trust’s quality and productivity targets are met. They will promote good clinical care for all patients for both their mental health and physical health.

The post holder will adopt a pragmatic leadership style, thus ensuring collaborative working both at a clinical and an operational level.

The post holder will be expected to participate in Quality Improvement and service evaluation projects and will be encouraged to support any research which may be relevant to either short or long-term service improvement.

Together with the team manager and Neohealth Consultant colleagues, the post holder will provide overall clinical leadership for the North K&C Community Mental Health Hub’s multidisciplinary team as well as direct clinical assessments and consultations for the Westhill/Inclusive PCN.

Management Responsibilities:

The post holder will be a member of the Medical Staff Committee of CNWL.

The post holder will be expected to take part in various committees and project teams relating to service developments. This will be done in discussion with the Borough and Clinical Directors.

Teaching Responsibilities:

An active role in the postgraduate teaching programme, which consists of a local academic meeting on Wednesday lunchtime. This meeting includes a Journal Club and case presentations.

Teaching of medical students who regularly attend ward rounds and community MDT meetings as part of their psychiatric experience. Support is also given to work experience students when applicable.

Supervision of the junior doctors allocated to the team. This must meet Royal College of Psychiatrists’ standards of clinical and educational supervision.
