Main duties of the job

The Penwith CMHT, with its two-consultant psychiatrist posts, serves a population of approximately 93,000. A planned programme of demand and capacity mapping (CLEAR) across community mental health services in Cornwall may influence boundaries over the coming years. The post-holder will cover surgeries in the Camborne and Redruth conurbation and surrounding satellite villages. Outpatient clinics are primarily held in The Basset Unit on the Long Reach Hospital site. The consultant contributes to clinical leadership within the team but is medically responsible only for individuals they have contact with. The post is supported by a 1.0 WTE Specialty Doctor and 1.0 WTE Resident Doctor who work with the team consultants. Trainees are primarily community-based but will also have on-call duty commitments to inpatient services. The consultant will share Clinical Supervisor duties for the trainee.

About us

We\'re an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people\'s physical and mental health and provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. You\'ll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this part of the UK.

Approximately 4,000 people form the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, admins and support staff. We work in people\'s homes, in community clinics and bases; some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live in Cornwall. A third of people in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. We work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer and during holidays, many people visit the area, increasing the demand for our services.
