Job summary

Overview

Job summary: University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) invites applications for roles in the Care of the Elderly team based at Bristol Royal Infirmary. The successful applicants will work with an established multidisciplinary team at the BRI and with colleagues at Weston General Hospital, NHS@Home hub, and across the BNSSG Hospitals Group. The post may require on‑call commitments.

Main duties

The post holders will support the care of complex, frail older people through the front door frailty service, frailty same day emergency care (FSDEC) and the Older Persons Assessment Unit (OPAU). The front door frailty team is established and expanding to deliver in reach into ED as well as supporting a new FSDEC launching later in 2025. On alternate weeks, as planned, the post holders will deliver NHS@Home based at the hub providing cross cover. The successful candidates will build on the collaborative approach across BNSSG Hospitals Group and future proof the model of care in line with the joint clinical strategy. The NHS@Home team will involve all three acute Trusts to strengthen links with local services.

Qualifications and Training

  • Fully registered with GMC. Certification of completion of specialist training (CCT) (or equivalent), or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at the point of interview
  • Candidates can be within 6 months of gaining CCT at date of interview (not applicable to CESR)
  • Fellowship of the Royal College
  • Must be on the GMC Specialist Register for the specialty to start as Consultant

Desirable

  • Higher academic qualification (e.g., MD, PhD) or equivalent
  • Educational Supervisor accreditation
  • Advanced communication skills training
  • Good Clinical Practice training

Experience
